A Haven for bird-watchers


Seasonal / Migratory birds flock travel to the lake at Karavetti that has the potential to be a significant in the state.

Now is the optimum time of the entire year to go bird watching… the weather is pleasant and seasonal birds have started to maneuver in. If you are getting excited looking towards spot an excellent range of seasonal birds, Karavetti or Vettukudi bird haven – a distance of 40 kms from the town – is the destination for a visit at this time of the season. That is one of the most important freshwater feeding grounds for seasonal birds. The city is encircled by several water bodies on the Chennai and Madurai expressways which are house to tens of thousands of birds who visit the city during the monsoon. The birds travel from various part of the planet.

Karavetti that is an hour’s travel from the town is recognized as second-largest haven in Tamil Nadu. November to February are ideal months to see the lake is loaded throughout the monsoon. It’s visiting population of around 50 variety of birds and the lake is house to a number of many different ducks which are nesting and breeding here. The seasonal species include black-winged stilt, white necked stork, spoonbill, open bill stork, red wattle lapwing, bar-headed goose, white winged scoter and grey heron.

Bird-watching is an interesting activity which is significantly practiced by fewer in the town.  A motorbike visit will experience the other smaller water bodies near Karavetti haven. The location is really an aesthetic treat because it is full of lavish greenery.

Ideal time for bird watching is early morning because this is time when most of the birds are pro-active.

Anyone planning to spend a night / evening, could get the accommodation at the government guest house and good hotels are also there.
