Keep up to Europe’s largest waterfall, feel the noise and vibration of the water over the body – which can be seen in the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen. By boat you can reach castles, the Rhine Falls basin and even the mighty rock in the middle of the waterfall.
There are more than 15,000 years, the Rhine, deviated from its course by tectonic movements, had to carve a new path. The Rhine Falls were formed at the boundary between a hard limestone layer and a gravel area. Several hundred cubic meters of water per second rush bellowing from a height of 23 meters over a width of 150 meters.
A rock emerges in the center of seething masses, braving the elements for millennia. A boat takes visitors on the Rhine, allowing them to access this steep island virtually in the heart of the Falls and observe this natural spectacle close on platforms built partly above the churning waters. The castles of Wörth and Laufen are also accessible by boat. The more daring can even rent canoes.
Schloss Laufen complex since March 2010. In addition to the new visitor center an extra glow sported, children’s playground and the “Historama” opened (interactive exhibition Rheinfall). make the new trail with its dual lift system and the Belvedere path for easy access to the beautiful Rhine Falls.
